Our History

Just 15 minutes from the capital of San Jose, you will find San Antonio deEscazu. It is the other side of the capital —a rural San José— where people maintain their most authentic traditions. Calm and simple life reigns here, and people are willing to share their way of life.

The name ―Escazu‖ is derived from the indigenous word Izt-Kat-zu, which means "resting place". This name was given by aboriginal people in this region. For many years, Escazu has been a beautiful place to visit. San Antonio is a town of great cultural richness and fine traditions, such as sugar mills, wooden carts, typical meals, masquerades, adobe houses and interesting legends.

The mountains in Cerros de Escazu offer a beautiful natural landscape. From its summits, it is possible to see a panoramic view of the entire Central Valley. Entering further in the Cerros, you can enjoy many sensations: smells, noises and harmonious sounds of birds and animals, and fresh, colorful environments that produce a sense of peace and tranquility, comforting every visitor.

With your visit to the Encanto de la Piedra Blanca, you will be supporting sustainable tourism, which seeks to support families in the community of San Antonio de Escazu. In addition, the project contributes to the conservation of the beautiful Cerros de Escazu, which give life to the Central Valley.
